NEW Globalport import Dior Lowhorn believes the team’s inexperience showed in its PBA Governors Cup game against San Mig Coffee Friday night.
Lowhorn saw how the Batang Pier’s once imposing 20-point lead disintegrate as the Mixers rallied their way back for a 92-82 win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“I think it’s just the experience (of San Mig). It’s a champion team,” Lowhorn said after the game as Globalport fell to a 1-3 (win-loss) record.
The 6-foot-4 import, who came in to replace Leroy Hickerson, finished with 33 points and 16 rebounds, but with the rest of his teammates folding up in the second half, there’s nothing much he can do to prevent San Mig from completing its might fightback.
While he acknowledged that the young franchise is teeming with talent, Lowhorn said the team will have to grow up fast in the season-ending tournament if the Batang Pier wish to barge into the quarterfinals.
“Terrence (Rome) and Mark (Macapagal), they are good. I know this team is a little inexperienced, but we just got to grow up faster,” he added.
With two big games coming up for Globalport next week when it faces traditional powers San Miguel Beer on Tuesday and Talk ‘N Text next Friday, Lowhorn said the team’s immediate goal is to earn a split.
“We don’t want to finish last. We want to make it to the quarters,” said the former University of San Francisco standout.
Lowhorn, who is coming off a stint in Japan’s basketball league, played for Barangay Ginebra in last season’s edition of the Governors Cup, where he averaged 30.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 11 games.
The Kings went on to finish eighth in the conference.
