EVEN though he is no longer with Phoenix Super LPG, Louie Alas hopes Fuel Masters star Calvin Abueva will be able to play once the 2020 PBA season finally resumes under a bubble format.

The former Phoenix coach said Abueva will definitely be a big boost to a team that has struggled after its enigmatic star was suspended by the PBA for his clothesline hit against TNT import Terrence Jones last year.

“Hopefully. ‘Yun ang pinapanalangin ko,” Alas said in a video interview with SPIN.ph. Kailangan kumpleto ‘yung team.”

Abueva’s ardent supporters are hopeful the indefinite suspension will be lifted once 'The Beast' completes the requirements set by the Commissioner's Office.

    So is Alas.

“Ngayon, nasa kanila na ang bola,” Alas said, referring to the PBA. “Wala na kay Calvin. Ginawa na niya lahat.”

Abueva has already rejoined the Fuel Masters in practices since last year, and Alas said he never failed to offer advice to the controversial star.

His main advice? Stay aggressive but keep your emotions in check.

“Lagi ko lang sinasabi sa kanya, you just have to be in control of your emotions. Aggressive pero in control," he said.

Asked if the suspension should've been lifted long ago, Alas said, “Kinabukasan pa lang nung nangyari. Alam ko kasi pagkatao niya. Ganyan lang ‘yan. Bargas pero malambot ang puso niyan. Nangangailangan lang siya ng father figure.”

Alas said he tried his best to be that father figure to Abueva during his stay with Phoenix.

With Robinson now at the helm, Alas is confident that the interim coach will be able to guide Abueva once he returns to action in the PBA.

‘Wag mong bobolahin,” Alas said.
