AN Accel PBA Press Corps Player of the Week citation is no small feat for an accomplished player like Jeff Chan, especially since the top gun has waited for it for so long.
“Oh talaga? Ako ang player of the week?” said Chan when informed that he was given the citation - his first this season - while on the way to Rain or Shine's practice in North East, Greenhills in San Juan on Monday.
The Bacolodnon sniper did not deny the fact that he has long wanted to win one this season, but he said he was always beaten to the honor by other outstanding performers like Clifford Hodge, Calvin Abueva, and Mark Caguioa.
“Pero ayos lang basta’t ang mahalaga nagpapanalo ang team namin," he added.
For the period covering December 31 to January 6, Chan became an easy choice for the award as he snapped out of a shooting slump to hit 27 points in spearheading the Elasto Painters to a series-clinching 90-83 win over San Mig Coffee on Thursday.
His semis averages of 13.8 ppg, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists helped prop Chan's conference numbers to 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 feeds for the season.
Now that he has a Player of the Week honor wrapped up, the Painters forward has set his sights on a bigger prize.
“Natupad na yung pangarap ko sa player of the week ngayong conference, sana yung isa pang wish ko magka-totoo," said Chan, pointing to the All Filipino Cup title which his team will contest with Talk 'N Text beginning with Game One on Wednesday.
