BARANGAY Ginebra will go for its 15th PBA crown on Sunday in Game Seven when it battles Bay Area in the conclusion of the Commissioner’s Cup finals at the Philippine Arena.
The league's most popular franchise has rarely played a Game Seven in the finals. It will only be the fifth time that the Gin Kings will see action in a do-or-die situation in a championship series.

2017 GOVERNORS’ CUP

Game Seven at the Philippine Arena will not be new for the barangay as the Gin Kings were pitted against Meralco were a league record 54,086 spectators were on hand for the Governors’ Cup finals contest on October 27, 2017. Barangay Ginebra won the game, 101-96, with the Gin Kings building a sizeable lead early which they kept until the final buzzer. LA Tenorio and Justin Brownlee led the Ginebra attack with 26 and 23 points respectively.
2009 FIESTA CUP
The only time it lost a Game Seven in franchise history, Barangay Ginebra absorbed a 90-79 defeat against San Miguel in the finale of the 2009 Fiesta Conference on July 17, 2009. Jayjay Helterbrand carried the fight for Ginebra with 25 points, but San Miguel got off to an excellent start by grabbing a 25-15 lead and never looked back.
2008 FIESTA CONFERENCE
Arguably one of the most memorable coronation nights of the team, Ginebra defeated Air21, 97-84, last August 20, 2008 with Ronald Tubid and Eric Menk sharing the Finals MVP honors in the Fiesta Conference after combining for 43 points in the contest. Import Chris Alexander also etched his mark on the minds of Ginebra fans with his 16-point, 19-rebound performance with the Gin Kings completing their comeback from a 3-2 series deficit against the Express.
1991 FIRST CONFERENCE
The first Game Seven of Ginebra happened way back on July 17, 1991 with Ginebra defeating Shell Rimula X, 104-102. It was in this game where Rudy Distrito hit a running shot with one second left to break the tie and sending celebrations inside the ULTRA. Distrito’s runner completed Ginebra’s comeback from a 3-1 series lead to capture the crown.
