JOREY Napoles scored four of Limitless App's final six points including the putback that beat TNT, 21-20, to clinch the Leg 3 title of the PBA 3x3 Conference 2 Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Napoles scored the game winner after Brandon Rosser missed on a driving layup as the Southeast Asian Games-bound Appmasters won their third leg title overall.
Most accomplished franchise
Counting the championship they won during the maiden grand finals, the 3x3 team of the Phoenix franchise owns the bragging rights as the most accomplished franchise so far in the young standalone tournament.
Napoles finished with a game-high 14 points, with his long two giving the Appmasters the lead, 19-18, after the team came roaring back from as much as a five-point deficit,
The game hit its turning point when Samboy De Leon was called for a technical foul on an accidental hit on the face of Reymar Caduyac, resulting in Napoles cashing in on a free throw that put Limitless on the hill.
But De Leon tied the game at 20 from the stripe, before Napoles saved the day for the Appmasters when he grabbed the offensive rebound and calmly sank the winning basket.
The latest championship feat was worth another P100,000 for the Appmasters, who got six points from Rosser.
"I'm still trying to make the team grow. There's still a lot of room for our team to grow," said coach Willy Wilson. "We have a great group of guys. The main thing is that they're growing every day. Every single day they're growing and improving."
"They're really a very good team. They are our toughest adversary," said Rosser of the Tropang Giga, who denied the Appmasters a place in the finals in Leg 1 of the second conference after defeating them in the semis.
Almond Vosotros finished with nine points to lead the Tropang Giga, who took home the runner-up purse of P50,000.
Tonino Gonzaga scored clutch back-to-back baskets in the stretch as Meralco escaped the upset ax against Terrafirma, 21-18, to take third place.
