LIKE all mothers, Liam McMorrow’s gave him everything he could ever ask for.

But one thing the Barako Bull import inherited from mom Sheila was crucial in paving the way for a career in basketball.

“She gave me the height, so I thank her for that too,” the seven-foot McMorrow said of his mom, who stands six feet.

McMorrow, whose seven-inch growth spurt from age 18 to 20 prompted his late shift from hockey to basketball, once again imposed his presence in the paint in leading the Energy to a 105-90 win over Blackwater in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Mothers’ Day.

“It was a good win on Mothers’ Day,” said McMorrow, who scattered 23 points and 15 boards. “We wanted to win for our mothers and not for anything individual.”

McMorrow personally dedicated the win to his mom, a nurse who is in Toronto.

“She’s the best,” said the Canadian giant, the youngest of four siblings. “She raised (us) all by herself. She’s mom and a dad, she’s a caregiver, and she’s everything to me.”

“I guess everyone talks about their mom like that, but she’s really special to me,” he added.

“I wish she was here,” McMorrow continued. “Hopefully I can fly her here.”

He may get his wish if the unbeaten Energy keep playing the way they have been.

“If we get in the semifinals, then she’ll be here,” Energy coach Koy Banal said with a smile.
