DEEPER and deeper into the 2016 PBA Draft, Levi Hernandez thought his name would never be called.

But to the relief of the former Arellano guard, Hernandez was chosen the 37th, and eventually, the last player on Sunday during draft hostilities held at the Robinsons Midtown Mall in Ermita, Manila.

Hernandez admitted he was nervous as the draft went on as his name was still uncalled.

"Akala ko, hindi na ako makukuha," said the 6-1 guard from San Luis, Pampanga. "Sobrang happy ko. Nagpapasalamat ako. Papakita ko na lang sa kanila kung ano magagawa ko."

After a stint with the Chiefs, Hernandez made a mark in the as a known scorer for Foton in the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL) and the Filsports Basketball Association (FBA), where he won an MVP award.

Hernandez, however, said it will not be his scoring that he plans to showcase at TNT, saying he will bring his defense to the Katropa squad already loaded with scorers.

"Siguro hindi na," said Hernandez, when asked if he will still be bringing offense to the Katropa. "Kasi marami ng scorer dun. Magko-concentrate ako sa depensa. Kasi ganun naman ako dati, 'yung ang ginagawa ko, 'yung maging defensive player. 'Yun 'yung ipapakita ko."

Incidentally, Hernandez's former teammate at Foton, Mikee Reyes and Cedrick Ablaza, were also selected in this year's PBA draft.
