OLSEN Racela didn’t even bother to look at the stat sheets by the time Petron’s heartbreaking loss to Talk `N Text Friday night was over.
“Di ko na nga tiningnan stats eh, kasi alam mo na ang storya,” the young mentor offered.
And the story had to do with the Boosters’ failure to finish off the Tropang Texters after losing grip of an 85-79 lead in the final 37 seconds, and going scoreless in the overtime period of an 85-93 setback in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“Isang free throw lang tapos na yun eh,” said Racela of the two missed foul shots by Arwind Santos that could have sealed the outcome of the match.
“May isang timeout (tinawag si Ronald Tubid) na di binigay ang referee, then one defensive stop also could have finished the game, pero wala, it didn’t happen.”
A clutch three-pointer by Jimmy Alapag in the waning seconds tied the game at 85-all and set the stage for overtime.
Everything just turned from bad to worse for the Boosters in the extra period.
“We started out turnover agad (in overtime). Sinabi ko nga sa kanila, di sana umabot sa overtime kung tinapos na namin yung laro,” said Racela.
The Petron coach said the experience is just another lesson learned for the entire team.
“We just have to learn to finish the game,” said Racela.
