LEO Austria’s son Bacon posted a cryptic tweet on Saturday, shortly after San Miguel formally announced that Jorge Gallent was named as the new head coach of the ballclub.
Bacon Austria posts cyrptic tweet after SMB coaching change
The younger Austria wrote a tweet which appeared to be related to the San Miguel statement on the coaching change that saw his father Leo becoming the team’s new consultant.
In the statement, San Miguel said Austria’s desire to take a “coaching sabbatical for personal reasons” was the reason for making the coaching change.
“These people can’t even get their statements right. Scrambling for imaginary excuses,” wrote Bacon, the former Ateneo cager who once played for the San Miguel 3x3 team on his Twitter account.
Gallent’s appointment ends Austria’s eight-year reign as San Miguel head coach where he led the Beermen to nine PBA titles including the Philippine Cup just this September.
One of the finest hours of Austria, a four-time Coach of the Year, was in 2016 when he steered San Miguel to a title victory over Alaska despite being down 0-3 in the series, the feat which was more popularly known as the ‘Beeracle.’
