THE PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign of San Miguel came to a sad end on Wednesday at the hands of the Bay Area Dragons in Game Four.

The Beermen lost to the Dragons, 94-92, in a game where the Beermen went on the transition and got to put up two good shots - a CJ Perez three-point shot and a June Mar Fajardo jumper off an offensive rebound.

    Both missed.

Still, San Miguel coach Leo Austria said the game plan was to go the length of the floor in the final seconds and not call a timeout even with the Beermen having two left.

“It’s a tough loss for us. We had a chance to tie or win the game. Although I have two timeouts left, I saw the advantage in the transition. We have the numbers but they were able to recover,” Austria said.

“We took (two) shots in the transition. It was a good game for us. It’s not the game to win a game to extend the series,” said Austria.

Following their conquest of the Philippine Cup, the Beermen encountered rough sailing in the Commissioner’s Cup with the team making import replacemernts from Thomas Robinson to Diamond Stone to Devon Scott.

Austria was also forced to sit out games after being placed under health protocols, with assistant coach Jorge Gallent taking over and vwinning five straight matches before dropping Game One of the semifinals.

Still, Austria said he was proud to see the team get this far despite the obstacles.

“I’m still proud of the team. What happened in the all-Filipino and in the second conference, from the start, it was really tough for us. Originally, Devon wasn't not our import. Alam naman natin lahat na we changed. We are so thankful for Devon because he gave us a ride to the semifinals. We came short in this game,” said Austria.

“I think we have to dwell on those past things that could inspire us to get back again especially next conference,” said Austria.
