SAN Miguel head coach Leo Austria explained the decision to pull the trigger on the trade which brought Matt Ganuelas Rosser to the Beermen camp from TnT in exchange for guard RR Garcia, saying the deal was a matter of necessity for both sides.

Austria explained that Garcia played behind Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross in the San Miguel backcourt and, of late, had gotten less minutes than Brian Heruela as the former Far Eastern University star struggled with an injury.

The KaTropa, on the other hand, needed a reliable back-up for Jayson Castro and were ready to give up Rosser in order to get their hands on one.

Austria believes that the trade was a 'win-win' for both teams.

"It's a collective decision and both parties agreed. I think they need RR, they're the one who suggested RR in exchange for Ganuelas Rosser," said Austria.

"It just so happened na si Ganuelas has a spot here in this team. He plays multiple positions and that's always an advantage. He can defend positions from one to three," he added.

The acquistion of the fourth overall pick in the 2014 PBA draft had raised questions on whether the Beermen may exceed the allowed number of Fil-foreigners in the active roster.

League rules limit to five the number of Fil-foreigners in the active lineup.

However, Austria was quick to allay the fears, insisting that the Beermen are still one short of the Fil-foreign ceiling since Ganuelas-Rosser isn't considered a Fil-foreigner under league rules.

Ganuelas Rosser will be joining a stacked backcourt that also includes veteran Ronald Tubid and Marcio Lassiter, but his exposure will depend on how fast he can adjust to the Beermen's system, Austria said.

"It will depend on how fast he can adjust to our system, kasi ayaw natin na magulo yung sistema namin," Austria continued.

"He should be the one to adjust and I'm confident he can pick it up, dahil ganun ka-passionate maglaro. After talking to him, we're very optimistic."
