SAN Miguel Beer's face-off with Barangay Ginebra on Sunday is expected to be the farewell game of import Josh Boone following the arrival of his replacement Kevin Jones early Saturday morning.
Boone submitted decent numbers in his PBA debut last Friday when he logged in 16 points and 16 rebounds in San Miguel’s 94-76 win over the Meralco Bolts.
However, team insider told Spin.ph that Jones, who is coming off a stint with the Canton Charge in the NBA Development League, already had a secret workout with some of the team’s coaches on Sunday morning.
“Nag-workout na si Kevin kasama ang ilang mga coaches. Tapos magwo-workout uli siya bukas (Monday) sa Reyes gym though walang practice ang team,” the source told Spin.ph, just hours before the Beermen’s Sunday match with the Gin Kings at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-9 Boone is clearly not good enough for the Beermen as he was still groping for the form that once made him a regular backup forward/center for the New Jersey Nets for four seasons.
Meantime, Jones, a former West Virginia stalwart, owns NBA D-League averages of 16.9 points and 8.0 rebounds in 30.5 minutes per game this season.
He also appeared in 32 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2012-13 season where he averaged 3.0 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.5 minutes
