MARCIO Lassiter sparked a pivotal third quarter assault, while Arwind Santos had another double-double as Petron cruised to a 93-83 victory over woeful Barako Bull in the PBA Philippine Cup Phoenix Road Game on Tour at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena City Saturday night.
Lassiter, the former Smart Gilas gunner, scored nine points in a huge 17-7 third quarter wind up to give the Boosters a 68-62 lead entering the final period.
Santos took over from there, plucking down rebounds, blocking shots, and hitting medium-range jump shots in the pivotal fourth and that allowed the Boosters to finally coast to their third straight win in the tournament.
The Boosters evened their record at 6-6, putting them in a better position in the quarterfinal playoffs with two games left on their schedule.
On the other hand, the loss dealt a serious blow to the Energy Cola, who dropped their third straight match and dragging them down in the standings with a 3-8 record.
It was a sorry loss for the Energy Cola, who just couldn’t keep pace with the Boosters in the second half as new coach Bong Ramos remained winless (0-2) in his coaching comeback in the league after taking over the Barako Bull mentoring post from Junel Baculi.
The 6-foot-3 Santos led the Boosters with 21 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three shot blocks in another dominant performance by the many-time all-defensive first team member.
Jay Washington and Chris Lutz added 12 points apiece in another balanced scoring attack for the Boosters.
The Energy Cola was led by the 15 points and conference-high 21 rebounds by Doug Kramer, while Danny Seigle and Sean Anthony chipped in 16 and 12 points, respectively.
