MARCIO Lassiter is providing a perfect sideshow in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals showdown between San Miguel and Rain or Shine with his hot pursuit of becoming the league’s most prolific three-point shooter of all time.
On Sunday night, the veteran gunner moved past LA Tenorio into the No. 3 spot for the most three-point shots made in PBA history.
Lassiter lit up the Mall of Asia Arena scoreboard with 13 points, including 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
This performance gave the Fil-Am shooting guard a total of 1,219 three-pointers, relegating Tenorio to No. 4 with 1,218.
“Just really honored. Hopefully I can keep on going and see how it goes,” said Lassiter after achieving the milestone.
This marked the third time Lassiter has moved up in the three-point shots made list this year, previously overtaking Ronnie Magsanoc and two-time MVP James Yap.
He said there wasn’t a conscious effort on his part to go for the record, but sometimes he can’t help thinking about it during the heat of the game.
“I’m trying not to think about it, but it’s kind of hard. I keep on looking up at the scoreboard, and think, ‘oh, there’s the numbers game,’” said the San Miguel veteran.
“I have the same approach as the next play mentality. I just rather focus on the present than on the past.”
Next up for Lassiter is No. 2 Allan Caidic, who has a total of 1,242, and the all-time leader Jimmy Alapag with 1,250.
Lassiter has nothing but respect for the two shooters, whom he described as ‘GOATs’ (Greatest Of All Time).
“The next two are great legends, obviously. Two GOATs. One has the record, and the second is the GOAT of shooting,” he said.
“When that time comes, it will be a very special moment.”
