THE Kevin Alas trade is still on hold, but another has gone through.
Rain or Shine governor Atty Mert Mondragon told Spin.ph that the reported trade involving the team's No. 2 pick overall in the last rookie draft remains up in the air as the Elasto Painters refuse to be a conduit to a trade involving sister teams NLEX Warriors and Talk 'N Text.
Rain or Shine wants to trade Alas and Larry Rodriguez to NLEX for the Warriors' first- and second-round picks in the 2015 draft, but apparently Talk 'N Text also wants to get its hands on the former Gilas cadet.
“Wala on hold pa rin 'yun. Hindi pa rin namin ibinibigay kasi gusto nila mapunta sa Talk n’ Text si Kevin. Ang gusto naming kapalit nasa NLEX,” said Mondragon.
Instead, the soft-spoken Asian Coatings lawyer revealed that the other half of the initially planned trade with NLEX has been realized. But instead of going to the Warriors, veteran forward Rodriguez was sent to Talk 'N Text for a 2015 second-round pick.
“Andun na si Larry, pirmado na namin 'yun,” said Mondragon.
The Rain or Shine official revealed that the pick was originally owned by NLEX but is now in the possession of Talk 'N Text because of a recent trade agreement.
Asked when the Alas trade will be realized, Mondragon says the ball is now in the hands of his counterparts from the Manny V. Pangilinan group.
“Sila na lang hinihintay namin. Basta kami willing na kami to trade to them si Kevin. Pero ang hindi kami okay ang magiging conduit nung dalawang sister teams,” he said.
“Siguro kung matutuloy ito, baka sa Korea na namin maplantsa,” said Mondragon, who will join the PBA board meeting and planning session in Incheon, South Korea.
