DEFENSE won it for Ginebra, and defense lost it for Talk `N Text.
Coach Norman Black admitted the Tropang Texters failed to make defensive stops and got outrebounded by the Kings in their 100-107 setback against the league’s crowd darling Sunday night in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
“It was our poor defensive effort,” said Black when asked what went wrong with the Tropang Texters. “We could not stop them (Kings).”
Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua said Talk `N Text is a very strong team, but `got confused on what we’re doing on defense.”
The Kings outrebounded the Tropang Texters too, 50-42.
“Our inability to rebound the basketball is the reason for our defeat,” said Black, who came out of the Talk `N Text dugout long after the game was over.
The loss snapped the Tropang Texters’ two-game winning run as they evened their card at 4-4 in a tie for fourth spot with Meralco and defending champion San Mig Coffee.
And for the team to get back on the winning track, Black could only offer one solution.
“I told them that we have to pick up on our defense if we don’t want to be in the middle of the pack,” he said.
