WHEN a recently crowned PBA champion who proved to be a major factor in ending his team’s long title drought speaks, aspirants better listen.
And the PBA draft hopefuls were all ears when LA Tenorio gave a pep talk before the finale of the mini tournament of the Draft Combine on Thursday at the Hoops Center.
The Ginebra star gave his well wishes to the 55 applicants who are hoping to hear their name get called in the Rookie Draft on Sunday at Robinsons Place Manila.
Tenorio also encouraged those who won’t get drafted to keep their hoop dreams burning.
“Sa mga hindi ma-da-draft, wag kayo panghinaan ng loob dahil marami pang opportunities dyan at maraming PBA player na hindi na-draft pero sumikat,” said Tenorio, the fourth overall pick in the 2006 draft.
Tenorio cited the story of fellow playmaker Josh Urbiztondo, who went undrafted in 2009, but worked hard to eventually crack a roster of a team and has now been playing in the league ever since.
“He wasn’t drafted, yet he’s doing really well sa Phoenix,” Tenorio said.
For those who will fulfill their dreams, especially point guards including Jio Jalalon and Mike Tolomia, Tenorio requested them to take it easy on him.
“Wag niyo lang ako papahirapan ah (pag dating niya sa PBA),” the 32-year-old cager ended with a smile.
