THE adrenalin rush may still be running for LA Tenorio, but the sooner he gets over Barangay Ginebra’s classic overtime victory over Star on Christmas Day, the better.
“Sabi nga ni coach Tim (Cone), we should not get too high and not too low about this,” said the hero of the Kings’ 92-89 overtime win against the Hotshots in their Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinal playoffs Friday before a crowd of 21,808 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ginebra’s man of the hour had six of his 11 points in the overtime period, including the game-winning trey at the buzzer that capped the team’s huge comeback from a 54-72 deficit early in the fourth period.
Tenorio said the final play was actually intended for veteran guard Mark Caguioa.
“Pero may nag gamble, tumulong `yung tao ko, so Sol (Mercado) made an extra pass,” Tenorio recalled about that final play.
“Sol made it happen again. I have to take it, good thing na-shoot ko.”
Pandemonium broke loose the moment the ball swished through the net as time ran out, with ecstatic Ginebra players piling up on a fallen Tenorio over at the sideline amid the chants of 'Ginebra! Ginebra! Ginebra!' inside the packed playing venue.
“Hindi ko nga alam kung saan ako tatakbo,” a laughing Tenorio said the moment he made the biggest shot for Ginebra in this all-Filipino conference.
“It’s a merry Christmas for everyone. One for the books, perhaps one of the greatest games.”
And hopefully, one which Tenorio gets over with - the earlier, the better.
