ANGELES CITY - LA Tenorio seized the moment in Barangay Ginebra’s 102-94 double-overtime win over Blackwater in a PBA Philippine Cup road game on Saturday night at the Angeles University Foundation Gym.
The veteran guard, coming in averaging just 7.9 points, put up his best-scoring game of the all-Filipino conference with 19 points, none more important than the three-pointer that put the Gin Kings up for good at 97-94.
But Tenorio insisted it wasn’t a statement shot and there wasn’t a conscious effort to become more aggressive against the Elite after deferring to his big men in past games.
“Opportunity lang,” the 31-year-old playmaker told Spin.ph in the team bus after the game. “Sa amin naman, pag talagang may opportunity, okay naman. That time was just an opportunity. Kailangan ko lang talaga i-tira.”
Tenorio stressed the victory wasn’t given on a silver platter.
“Mahirap na panalo, but gaya ng sinabi ni coach, kailangan namin 'yung mga ganitong klaseng panalo going to the playoffs, so hopefully marami kami natutunan.”
“Parang ito na nga 'yung start ng playoffs namin,” he added.
