LA Tenorio heaved a sigh of relief after his missed charities down the stretch almost cost Ginebra dearly in Game Fur against Meralco in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, which the Gin Kings won, 88-86, on Friday night.

A career 80-percent free-throw shooter, the veteran playmaker missed two charities with 9.5 seconds left that kept their lead at two points and the door open for the Bolts, who, however, failed to pounce as Chris Newsome missed on the other end.

“Nangyayari naman yun. Bottom line is a win is a win,” Tenorio said. “Actually, it’s the first time na nangyari sa akin yun, pero it happened eh. Good thing is yung teammates ko, tinakpan nila yun. On the defensive end, we stopped them, so yun ang importante. I don’t dwell on that kind of ano as long as we win.”

“Kung natalo kami, then I’ll dwell on it,” he added. “But a win is a win. We have to move forward.”

Tenorio also rued the Gin Kings’ poor play in the third quarter where the Bolts outscored them, 39-12.

“Kung natalo naman kami dun, it’s not my free throws eh, we look at the whole game,” Tenorio said. “We relaxed the third quarter at kung hindi pumasok si Jayjay (Helterbrand) and Mark (Caguioa), yun na yung game eh.”

The Fast and Furious, indeed, came to the rescue.

“Good thing about those two veterans is that if they play or don’t play, parati silang ready and nandyan sila to lift up the spirit of all the players,” Tenorio said. “That’s how we’re supposed to play.”

“(But) we cannot wait for Mark and Jayjay to inspire us like that,” he was quick to add. “We really have to go all out and go hard. Ganun talaga ang finals eh, so hopefully, mag-respond kami next game.”
