LA Tenonio admitted Game Four of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals was for Barangay Ginebra to lose.

With the Bay Area Dragons seeing action without talented import Andrew Nicholson, the guest team played with hardly any pressure and took it to its advantage.

The end result had them pulling off a big 94-86 win against the Kings to tie at 2-2 the best-of-seven series Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“They played really loose and they played to their strength,” offered Tenorio shortly after the game. “Pag andun kasi si Nicholson, hinahanap nila lagi si (Nicholson).

“And coming into this game, we’re not sure if Nicholson will play or not play. So siguro we fell into that trap na nangyari yung kinakatakot naming mangyari.”

    Kobey Lam

With Nicholson showing up wearing a protective boot on his sprained left ankle, the local Dragons stepped up led by Kobey Lam, who was on fire with 30 points on 8-of-14 shooting from downtown.

Glen Yang and CBA rising star Zhu Songwei each had 18, with Yang playing the full 48 minutes and Zhu adding nine rebounds.

Veteran big man Duncan Reid also started for the team in place of Nicholson and had a quiet but effective eight points and eight rebounds.

“They’re a good team. They’re really a well-coached team. Hindi naman sila basta-basta magpapatalo and we knew that, coming to this game, coming to this series,” said Tenorio, who finished with 11 points but was only 4-of-14 from the field.

“Again that’s why it’s a championship series, it’s time for us to adjust. Adjust kami na wala si Nicholson. Iba kasi yung adjustment kapag andiyan si Nicholson.”

The Ginebra team captain also added the Kings let the opportunity slip away in the second half when they began the third quarter leading by eight, 46-38.

“Dapat we should have pound them nung lamang kami. Medyo nag-relax ng kaunti, tapos nagulo na yung defensive rules,” said Tenorio.

“Dapat hindi na umabot sa ganun.”
