LA Tenorio makes retirement official with heartfelt message

LA TENORIO on Saturday formally announced his retirement from playing, 13 years of which with Barangay Ginebra, and expressed readiness to take on the new challenge of coaching with Magnolia.

Tenorio made the announcement on his Instagram account on the eve of the PBA Season 50 draft, his first official function as the new head coach of Magnolia.

But before selecting his first rookie player as a head coach on Sunday, Tenorio expressed his gratitude to San Miguel Corp. and Barangay Ginebra management for his years with the team.

"Paalam sa jersey, pero hindi sa puso," a part of Tenorio's message on Instagram said.

The 41-year-old Tenorio said he would have wanted to continue playing, but also welcomed his new role. He also thanked Barangay Ginebra and its legions of fans for their support over the years.

"As much as I would like to believe my work is not done and would love to play for Ginebra, opportunities and circumstances arise. With the utmost trust and love of the San Miguel management, my family and I believe it is best to take this opportunity and step into this next chapter of my life in the world of basketball - coaching," wrote Tenorio.

"The Ginebra team is in good hands with its new court leaders and I have nothing but love for all of them."

"So, from the bottom of my heart... After 13 unforgettable years, I am beyond grateful. Sobra ang pasasalamat ko sa buong Barangay Ginebra family," he added.

Once ka-Barangay, always a ka-Barangay

Tenorio thanked San Miguel Corp. and Barangay Ginebra top honchos Ramon S. Ang, Alfrancis Chua, and Vicky Estoque, head coach Tim Cone, his Ginebra teammates, utility staff, and medical team for their times together that he will never forget.

Tenorio also called Ginebra supporters as the "best fans in the world", and added he will forever carry the "Pusong Ginebra" and "Pusong NSD."

"Sa aking bagong chapter bilang coach, I will continue to give my best and serve the game I love. Ang pagiging parte ng PBA family ay mananatili. This is not goodbye."
