Feeling of helplessness for Agustin after Thornton rampage: 'Anong magagawa namin 'dun?'

    Mar 11, 2015

ANTIPOLO – LA Tenorio admitted he and his Barangay Ginebra teammates should’ve given Mac Baracael support defensively in containing NLEX import Al Thornton, who almost singlehandedly carried the Road Warriors to a come-from-behind 96-90 win over the Gin Kings on Wednesday night.

The Gin Kings decided to have just a single coverage on Thornton, with the unenviable task put on forward Baracael who on his own couldn't stop the American reinforcement from exploding for a league season-high 50 points.

“In fairness to Mac, he did his job,” Tenorio told after the game. “He did his very best to defend the import.”

But the Kings star point guard admitted they failed to give Baracael sufficient help defense.

“Hindi naming natulungan si Mac. Supposedly dapat may tulong ‘yun,” Tenorio said. “Hindi naman talaga kaya ni Mac depensahan mag-isa ‘yun.”

“We didn’t execute defensively as a team toward the end of the game,” he added. “We didn’t play for forty-eight minutes.

But what can you do when an NBA veteran gets in the zone?

“'Pag yung player, nasa momentum na, mahirap ng pigilan, especially an import,” Tenorio said.

Kings coach Ato Agustin admitted their faults in the way they defended Thornton, who played small forward and made tough turnaround jumpers look easy.

“Anong magagawa namin ‘dun?” Agustin said. “It was a one-man show. Talagang hindi namin napigilan ‘yun.”
