LA Tenorio expects Ginebra’s twin towers to consistently put up the numbers that they had in their 93-78 win over TNT KaTropa on Sunday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter have been taking turns putting up solid numbers in their previous games, but on Sunday, both came up with similar splendid offensive showings that helped the Gin Kings post their fifth win in nine games.
Aguilar registered 25 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks, while Slaughter pumped in 20 points to go with 14 caroms, four assists, and two blocks.
“Expected naman na Greg and Japeth should be…on top of everything,” Tenorio said. “And me also, kasi we're playing the major minutes.”
Without Joe Devance, the Gin Kings have also been looking for consistent production from shock troopers, who Tenorio praised after seeing Kevin Ferrer score all his six points in the payoff period and Jervy Cruz and Mark Caguioa delivering on defense.
“The most important thing in this game is really our bench players. They really stepped up, Jervy and even Mark and Kevin,” Tenorio said. “When we say step up, not necessarily about points naman talaga sa amin, in our team. It's really contribution defensively and doing the little things.”
“Yun ang importante sa amin, especially going to this stretch na playoff talaga,” he added.
And after back-to-back blowout wins that moved them above .500 at 5-4, Tenorio feels the Gin Kings are sustaining their postseason mentality heading into the real playoffs next month.
“We started our playoff games against KIA, and then this is our second (playoff) game, against Talk N Text, so it doesn't matter kung sino kalaban namin in the next one, as long as we are in playoff mode,” Tenorio said.
“It doesn't matter, No. 1 team or last team. Ang importante is really playing our game, playing our game the right away and how we're supposed to play our game as a team,” he added.
