LA TENORIO is regarded as one of the finest point guards in the PBA during his career that has spanned for 14 years with three teams most notably with Barangay Ginebra.
On his 36th birthday on July 9, let’s relive some of Tenorio’s best years in the professional league as well as in the international circuit.
2010
It was in this year that Tenorio had his breakthrough season. The former Ateneo standout won his first-ever PBA crown during the 2010 Fiesta Conference after Alaska finished off San Miguel in six games of the finals. Tenorio captured the Finals MVP with his splendid performance including in Game Four where he scored 21 points in the victory.
That performance led to Tenorio making it to the Mythical First team and being named as the Most Improved Player for that year.
2012
Tenorio became the star of Gilas Pilipinas in this year’s William Jones Cup campaign, winning the MVP award after the national squad captured the championship for the fourth time.
Tenorio had a game to remember against the United States, scoring 20 points in their 76-75 victory, a nice follow-up to his 11-point performance against Chinese Taipei the previous day. His Jones Cup play allowed him to become a regular of Gilas Pilipinas for years to come.
2013
It was quite a year for Tenorio not just in the PBA but in the international scene as well, with the now Barangay Ginebra cager capturing his first-ever Best Player of the Conference crown in the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup.
Later that year, Tenorio became part of one of the most historic national teams ever after Gilas Pilipinas secured a silver medal in the 2013 Fiba Asia Championship and a spot in the 2014 Fiba World Cup. The road to the silver finish was highlighted by Gilas’ unforgettable 86-79 win over Korea in the semifinals.
2016
Tenorio’s second finals MVP came in this year, this time for Barangay Ginebra. After a few heartbreaks, the Gin Kings finally became a champion by ruling the Governors’ Cup. While Justin Brownlee hit the title-clincher with his three-point basket, Tenorio made the victory possible by leading the comeback charge of the Gin Kings on their way to a 91-88 win over Meralco.
Tenorio went on to become part of the Mythical Second team of the season.
2017
Ginebra successfully defended the Governors’ Cup crown, with Tenorio once again winning the Finals MVP. The Gin Kings’ ace guard unloaded 26 points and tallied four assists in their Game Seven victory over the Bolts, 101-96, in front of a massive 54,086 fans at the Philippine Arena.
Like in the previous year, Tenorio also captured the Mythical Second team award.
2019
Tenorio has been proving his durability, and in this year, he put himself on the record books by becoming the player with the most consecutive games played in the PBA. He played his 597th game on March 19 against Magnolia, which is incidentally managed by the previous record holder in Alvin Patrimonio.
