LA Tenorio offers no excuse even as weary Ginebra 'a step slow' in Game 1 loss

LA Tenorio can’t help but blame fatigue that factored in Ginebra’s 102-90 loss to San Miguel Beer in Game One of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal series on Friday night.

Playing their fourth game in one week, the weary Gin Kings looked a step slower than the Beermen, who led comfortably most of the way in stamping their class.

“I don't wanna be making an excuse, but I think fatigue factor is nandun,” Tenorio admitted. “Physically, nandun yung effort namin eh. Of course when we're playing, gusto namin na ibigay pa rin yung best namin, yung effort namin talaga, but we're one step slow in this game and they're really on fire.”

Coming in averaging 44.7 minutes in his last three games, including an almost 57-minute outing in a triple-overtime win against Rain or Shine, Tenorio saw fatigue took its toll on him as he contributed just six points on 3-of-7 shooting, two assists, one board, and one steal.

At least the 33-year-old playmaker had relatively more rest this time as he played less than 30 minutes, not seeing action in the fourth quarter where the game was already out of reach for Ginebra.

“I've played 56, 39 and 39 minutes for the past three games, so I mean I'm not saying that making an excuse, but siguro mentally we're not down and we're one step slower in this game,” Tenorio said.

“Fatigue factor will not be an excuse again next game for us,” he was quick to add. “Definitely we'll be ready for the next game. Good news is this is a best-of-seven.”
