ANTIPOLO City – LA Revilla said there’s no more bad blood between him and former team KIA Picanto. And to prove it, he wishes the Picanto nothing but the best in their season.
The Phoenix point guard he hopes KIA will finally get to keep the core of its team in order to maintain chemistry and consistency, which he believes were lacking during the time he was the face of the franchise the last three years.
“They are in a revamp, and na-experience ko na yun before with them. So it takes a while,” said Revilla, gracious enough to give his thoughts about his former team which he faced for the first time on Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center here.
“I hope they can keep the guys long term para hindi na pabago-bago, paiba-iba. Ang hirap ng ganun,” he stressed. “I do hope they get the right guys, right personnel for them to be successful.”
Revilla had five points, five assists, and two rebounds in Phoenix’s 125-102 rout of Phoenix, which marked the first time he went up against the Picanto since the off-season trade for rookie Jayson Grimaldo and a 2018 second round draft pick.
The parting of ways between the two wasn’t cordial in light of Revilla’s Twitter post criticizing KIA management’s decision to trade the team’s rights to the No. 1 overall pick Christian Standhardinger to San Miguel in exchange for three role players and a future first round pick.
But everything is water under the bridge, Revilla insisted.
“At least tapos na. Happy ako na it’s off my chest,” a smiling Revilla said after the game. “OK naman. We have two more conferences this season, so I guess maghaharap pa kami uli.”
The 28-year-old playmaker from Bacolod said beating the Picanto wasn’t his personal goal going to the game.
“Hindi naman. We just simply want to win kasi (we’re coming off a loss) against San Miguel. So sabi namin (Fuel Masters), we had a long break. So this is a great opportunity to prepare. Good thing we executed our game plan,” he said.
Did he get to talk to his former teammates before the match-up?
“Hindi na,” said Revilla. “Before pa, I already talked to them, kasi nag-tune-up na kami before the conference.
“Nag-focus lang ako talaga dito sa game.”
