LA Revilla just glad given another chance to play in PBA after signing with expansion team Kia

    Sep 6, 2014

LA Revilla considers it a blessing to be able to return and play again in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

The 5-foot-8 former La Salle star playmaker said he is more determined to stay longer in the league after signing up recently with expansion ball club Kia Motors under playing-coach Manny Pacquiao.

“It’s a dream-come-true again (to play in the PBA),” Revilla said with a big smile.

He had a rather forgettable rookie season last year with Globalport.

Matched up against Ginebra pint-sized guard Eman Monfort in the two team’s tune-up match over the weekend, Revilla engineered Kia’s second quarter comeback together with Reil Cervantes as they knocked down crucial shots to help the Sorentos shock the Kings, 73-71.

“Nagpa-kundisyon lang ako, worked mostly on my game and then worked out with my friends, and with the team also,” explained the 24-year-old pride of Bacolod.

Revilla played just three games for the Batang Pier last season, averaging 1.3 rebounds, 0.67, point, and 0.67 assist in 7.6 minutes in a crowded backcourt that then included Sol Mercado and Rudy Lingganay.

The cat-quick point guard was eventually let go midway in the season, but managed to find his way back in the PBA D-League where he played for the Cagayan Valley Rising Suns under coach Alvin Pua.

While nobody is giving Kia a fighting chance in its first season in the pro league considering the team is mostly consists of former PBA players trying to make their way back, Revilla remains confident the expansion franchise can make heads turn as long as it continues to work hard.

“We will just fight. We will just play hard all the time, kasi alam namin at the back of our heads underdogs talaga kami,” said the incoming Kia sophomore guard.

Beating a star-studded Ginebra squad is also a morale booster for the team, according to Revilla.

“It’s good naka-first tuneup game at ngayon, alam namin saan kami. Mage-gauge namin sarili namin and we can work more on what to improve, saka confidence booster na rin ito,” he added.

Kia will play its second preseason match next Friday against Globalport where Pacquiao is expected to play his first game as playing-coach.
