KOBEY Lam scored a transition lay-up off a turnover with 10.2 seconds left to lift Macau to a 96-92 win over Terrafirma on Wednesday in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup.
Lam gave the Giant Pandas their second straight win to improve to 2-4 at the close of their first round campaign.
De’Vondre Perry had 34 points, while Damian Chong Qui had 29 points as Macau won its second straight game in style, overcoming a 15-point deficit.
Lam broke a 92-92 deadlock after he received a lead pass from Leung, who forced a loose ball by stripping the ball from Maverick Ahanmisi.
Lam was actually fouled on the play, giving him a three-point opportunity. Although he missed the bonus free throw, Lam followed up on his miss and secured the offensive rebound, leading to Chongqui making two free throws with 4.1 seconds.
Juami Tiongson missed a four-point shot in Terrafirma’s last offensive possession to go down to 2-4.
Perry (shoulder) and Chong Qui (thigh) have been dealing with injuries, with made the victory a lot sweeter for the Giant Risers.
“I just appreciate them for being tough-minded, gritty, and helping us get that win,” Macau coach Marcus Elliott said.
Macau fell behind, 37-22, but slowly chipped away the deficit. A 29-14 third quarter gave the Giant Pandas a 72-68 lead entering the final period where it became a seesaw battle that they survived.
Justin Strings had 34 points and Ahanmisi had 20 points but committed the costly turnover in the end game.
