KOBE BRYANT has a simple piece of advice to the Gilas Pilipinas bound for the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain.
“Just continue to play together,” said Bryant.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar is in the country to promote Lenovo smartphones which he endorses, arriving just two days after the Philippines clinched a berth in the world championships after a semifinal victory over Korea in the Fiba-Asia men's championships.
When pressed with the question, Bryant, who ironically has been labelled as a 'ball hog' by bashers, emphasized teamwork.
“It’s not the strength of the individual. It’s a team sports. It’s how well those individuals work together as a team,” said Bryant during the press conference at the Resorts World Manila.
“It is about working together and constant communication. I think when that happens, you can accomplish something truly special, but you have to do it as a team,” he added.
“Team should always hide the weakness of an individual. But the team won't know what your weaknesses are if you don’t communicate them and (there's) no way of supporting you.”
Bryant arrived late Sunday night from Beijing following delays in his flight due to ‘Labuyo.’ The media had to wait for hours before Bryant showed up at the media conference wearing sunglasses.
He also gamely posed for pictures with fans who won a chance to meet Bryant through an online promo. One of the winners include Gilas Pilipinas cadet player Kevin Alas.
Bryant has been visiting the country numerous times, the last time when he joined other NBA All-Stars in an exhibition game between Gilas Pilipinas and a PBA All-Star squad.
Bryant said that he loves the Philippines because of its love for the game.
“Passion that you have to the game drives me the most,” said Bryant when asked why he keeps on coming back. “I love to be around with that kind of energy."
