KOBE Charley Caluya's PBA dream is over - for now.

The PBA Commissioner's Office on Friday released the list of 53 applicants who qualified for the 2016 Rookie Draft and it did not include Caluya, who at 43 was the oldest player to apply for drafting.

Caluya was actually one of only two applicants to miss the draft cut; the other, Jordan dela Paz, failed to qualify for failing to attend the prerequisite two-day Draft Combine for rookie hopefuls, the league said.

Imagine a Kobe and a Jordan missing the PBA cut.

In a statement, the PBA said Caluya was excluded after failing to "pass the fitness test supervised by Focus Athletics."

Caluya, who at 5-7 was also the shortest among the applicants, was a longshot from the start and his chances dimmed after he was prevented from joining the mini-tournament on Day Two of the rookie camp.

But the ball player from Paranaque has nonetheless gotten a lot of sympathy on line, perhaps because a lot of fans identified with his pursuit of his PBA dream despite the great odds.

Caluya was also defiant after being told not to join the second day of camp, offering himself as a player who can rekindle fans' interest in the pro league with his unique story.
