    KJ McDaniels sustains fine play as TNT blasts ROS for share of lead

    KJ MCDANIELS sustained his stellar play in the PBA Governors’ Cup as he led TNT to a 103-91 win over Rain or Shine on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

    McDaniels tallied 37 points and 13 rebounds in another splendid performance as the former NBA player carried the KaTropa to a 2-0 record to share first place with NLEX in the team standings.

    The TNT import also got help from Troy Rosario and Jayson Castro during a second period that turned the tide for the KaTropa in the Petron Saturday Special match.

    “We just continued to keep working hard. We need to win as many as we can. Kailangan samantalahin namin. Pahirap ng pahirap ‘yung mga games namin. Hindi madali ang Rain or Shine, pinaghandaan namin kasi they are a tough team. We just have to keep improving,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena.

    Rosario finished with 16 points, and Jayson Castro had 15, and they combined for 14 of TNT’s 22 points in the second quarter to grab a 49-44 lead at the half. Rosario and Castro was also key in TNT’s 14-3 burst that gave the KaTropa a 41-28 lead in the second period.

    The Elastopainters came to within four points on a putback by Joel Wright, 90-86, but Wright was called for a flagrant foul penalty one for tripping Rosario with 3:50 left in the ballgame.

    The infraction forced Wright to sit the next three minutes of the match, and TNT took advantage as a triple by Rosario brought the KaTropa’s lead back to 10, 96-86.

    Wright had 20 points, while Javee Mocon had 18 points as the Elastopainters fell to 1-1.
