SAN Miguel coasted to a 126-114 win over struggling Converge on Wednesday in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen went on a 37-21 third quarter to turn a close game into a rout to bounce back from their previous overtime defeat against TNT last Saturday.
George King led the way for San Miguel with a conference-high 46 points as head coach Leo Austria returned on the sidelines to call the shots for the team.
Converge continued its drop with a 3-4 win-loss record following its fourth consecutive loss.
Don Trollano also had a notable scoring night off the bench with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field including five threes in the game.
King already had 23 points in the first half, a total contrast to their 93-89 overtime loss to TNT where he only had eight in the first two quarters.
Still, San Miguel only led by one, 65-64, at the break, but King and Trollano poured it on in the third by combining for 25 in that quarter.
“The reason for this win was because we were able to balance our scoring. We scored 63 bench points and that’s what I’m looking for in the team,” Austria said.
Calvin Abueva had a conference-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, with Jamaal Franklin having a similar stat line but Converge still lost.
