LOSING a game entering the All-Star break is definitely not what Kiefer Ravena wanted especially before playing in front of his fans in Iloilo where he was born.
But the NLEX rookie remains confident the Road Warriors can turn things around following a 1-4 start to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“We have two weeks. It sucks to be in this position especially coming off a loss coming into a two-week break,” said Ravena.
The former Ateneo star finished with 24 points on Wednesday but ended up on the losing side as NLEX bowed to Globalport, 116-94, going into the All-Star break.
“I’m not even thinking about the All-Star break. I was looking forward to it after this game with a win but it was a downward spiral. I’ll try to have fun,” Ravena said.
Ravena said their slow start is somewhat humiliating especially after their great ride in the Philippine Cup playoffs that saw the Road Warriors reach the semifinals for the first time in franchise history.
“Nakakahiya rin kapag ganun laro namin kasi we are not only representing our brand and our company. At the same time, we are representing a very coveted coach in coach Yeng (Guiao). We haven’t been up to par with that,” Ravena added.
Entering the All-Star break, Ravena hopes the respite will turn into a positive thing when they return to the court on May 30 against Blackwater.
“It can work both ways. It can be a good time to think about things, recuperate, recover, and stay together as one team. At the same time, gusto mo bumawi. Matagal pa, sa 30 pa laro namin,” said Ravena.
Ravena, however, said he and his team are not yet pushing the panic button as the Road Warriors look to take advantage of the long break to make adjustments.
The NLEX rookie also hopes the team will be able to draw inspiration from their semifinal appearance in the Philippine Cup last conference to be able to stop the alarming trend.
“More of a sense of urgency than panic kasi hindi mo na alam ang ginagawa mo (kapag panic). You still have to be in control. You still have to be on top of our minds,” said Ravena.
“Still think the things that we did in our first win last conference sa All-Filipino Cup, kung ano kailangan namin gawin para makapasok sa semifinals,” he added.
