KIEFER Ravena continued his education and transition from college to professional brand of basketball after finding out how tough it is to climb out of a huge hole in NLEX’s 97-86 loss to Rain or Shine in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday night.
The former Ateneo star saw his team fall into a deep 21-point hole, 38-59, early in the third quarter, a deficit they trimmed to 11, only to fall short on the way to absorbing a fourth straight setback that negated their 2-0 start.
“Ganun na yung games ngayon, iba na sa pro,” Ravena said. “Yun din siguro yung adjustment na nararamdaman ko ngayon, kasi hindi katulad sa college, may mga lamang na madaling mawala pero pagdating dito, aalagaan na 'yan kasi mga mature na.”
“If you get down in college, down ten points, you have a 6-0 run and you're back in the game. Here, mahirap,” he added. “You're down ten, didiinan ka lang, next thing you know you're down 20, down 25."
“We can't always catch up in the last 12 minutes of the game. Lagi kaming humahabol, laging kapos naman,” he added.
Ravena was one of the few bright spots for his team with 14 points, three assists, two boards, and two steals, but the rookie sensation scored just two points in the first half where the Elasto Painters started to break away.
“We have to find a way to help each other out,” Ravena said. “It can't be one or two guys stepping up every other game. We have to be consistent together as a team. Siguro kailangan lang namin maghanap ng paraan para manalo.”
“Palalim ng palalim yung hukay pero we have to be positive,” he added. “We have to be positive about this. I don't know how. But we still have five more games and it's only going to get tougher and tougher.”
