JACKSON Corpuz’s hand injury added to KIA Picanto’s woes in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Worse, the sophomore wingman could be out for three to four weeks depending on how fast the middle finger on his left hand heals.
“Fractured kasi ito. Depende kung pagdating ng three weeks kung ma-clear na. Pag di pa okay, baka mas matagal pa,” he said after the Picanto went down to their third straight loss on Sunday, 102-65, against Alaska at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Tingin ko naman makaka-recover agad. Huwag lang maging pasaway, basta sundin lang ang doctor.”
“Gagaling agad basta sundin ko nga lang yung mga sinasabi ng doctor,” added the former Philippine Christian University stalwart.
Corpuz suffered the injury following a collision with Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon in KIA’s lopsided 124-77 loss to the Hotshots last week.
“Nahila kasi ni Jio. Paangat ako, pababa naman siya, kaya nahawakan niya yung kamay ko,” said Corpuz, while showing a photo of the X-ray taken on the injured hand.
Good thing, only the middle finger was injured. Otherwise, if the other fingers were affected, the entire hand would need an operation.
Until getting injured, Corpuz was averaging 11.3 points and ranked fourth-best scorer among the Picanto scorers.
He admitted feeling an itch to help the team especially when the Aces were making a huge run in the third quarter.
“Gaya kanina, alam mo yun, yung gusto mong tumulong sa team namin, walang rebound, andaming mismatch, e. Nakaupo lang ako sa bench, gusto kong maglaro pero walang magawa,” said Corpuz, who was left undrafted in 2014 but got the call-up to play for KIA last season.
