The controversial deal between Kia and San Miguel Beer is pushing through.
In a revised transaction, the Picanto gave up the No. 1 pick overall in Sunday's PBA rookie draft for veteran for Ronald Tubid, Rashwan Mccarthy, Jay-R Reyes and a first-round pick in the 2019 draft.
Commissioner Chito Narvasa approved the deal on Friday afternoon, announcing his decision in a press conference at the Philippine Arena before Game Seven of the Governors Cup Finals.
His decision came over a week after the two teams agreed on a deal that came under fire from fans, mediamen and a couple of team owners like Alaska's Wilfred Uytengsu.
The criticism, however, did not discourage Narvasa from approving a transaction that now gives San Miguel a shot at selecting Fil-German big man Christian Standhardinger in Sunday's draft.
The revised transaction is essentially not much different from the original version of the trade that involved Keith Agovida, Reyes, McCarthy, and an SMB draft pick.
