KG Canaleta left frustrated after hot shooting for Blackwater goes for naught

    Apr 22, 2017

IT was just one of those days for Niño Canaleta. Unfortunately, it was also typical result for Blackwater on Saturday.

The veteran stretch forward was feeling it from long range as he knocked down seven triples – two shy of his career high – as he emerged as one of the few bright spots in the Elite’s 96-90 loss to Star in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Canaleta finished with a game-high 27 points along with one rebound before fouling out after almost 42 minutes of play.

“Parang iba lang yun pakiramdam ko kanina approaching the game,” the 35-year-old cager, acquired in a trade early in the conference, said. “Siguro parang it's time for me to step up para makatulong sa team ganun.”

But after burying all his seven treys in the first three quarters, Canaleta ran out of ammo in the payoff period, missing his two more attempts from beyond the arc and going scoreless as the Hotshots defense tightened.

Oo nga eh, wala ng space,” Canaleta admitted. “Hindi na ako nao-open ganun. Tsaka pagod na rin.”

“Sobrang nakakapanghinayang,” he added. “Kumbaga lahat naman naglaro ng best nila ganun, then sa endgame talaga yung problem namin.”

Canaleta is hoping his team develops a strong finishing kick after wasting a nine-point lead in the third quarter.

“Mas maganda siguro mas mag-focus kami dun sa ginagawa namin all throughout the game, hindi lang sa first, second, and third quarter,” he sad. “Sa fourth quarter, mas importante yung mag-stick kami sa game plan kasi parang nawawala eh.”
