KEVIN Ferrer is doubtful to join NorthPort when PBA teams finally get back on court by next week at the start of players’ workouts.
Ferrer was found to have a ‘venous malformation’ on the plantar side of his right foot and need to rest it for at least a week.
Although team manager Bonnie Tan referred to it as a ‘minor injury,’ the Batang Pier deemed it best to have the elongated forward just take his time first and skip the first two weeks of the players’ workout.
As it is, the 27-year-old alum of University of Santo Tomas no longer joined NorthPort during its scheduled COVID-19 test on Friday at the Makati Medical Center.
“After two weeks na sa next swab test namin tsaka siya sasama sa team,” said Tan, also the champion coach of reigning NCAA men’s basketball title holder Letran Knights. “Also need to get a doctor’s clearance bago siya makasama.”

Ferrer missed the Batang Pier’s last two games during the 2019 Governors Cup semis after suffering a freak accident where a heavy object fell on his foot.
It’s uncertain though, whether the same foot is the one Ferrer is currently nursing.
What is certain though is the return to training of previously injured Robert Bolick, Jonathan Grey, and Bradwyn Guinto, who Tan said will all be joining once players’ workouts commenced.
Bolick, the no. 3 pick in the 2018 rookie draft, had a remarkable rookie season with the Batang Pier that was unfortunately, cut short by an ACL injury during the season-ending Governors Cup.
Grey for his part, tore his right patellar tendon and has been out of action for more than a year now, while Guinto is coming off another knee injury.
Tan said Bolick is almost done doing his rehab on his injured foot.
“Actually, more on strengthening na siya,” said the NorthPort official. “Tuluy-tuloy naman kasi yung rehab niya kahit na nitong quarantine period.”
In all, the Batang Pier are all gearing up to get back on the court and start working out as a team.
Tan cited big man Christian Standhardinger as the one who’s really looking forward seeing the Batang Pier together again.
“Si Christian talaga gustung-gusto nang mag-workout sa full court, kasi makeshift court lang yung nasa garahe niya kaya hirap din siyang mag-practice on his own,” said the NorthPort team manager.
