KEVIN Ferrer and Calvin Abueva went head-to-head for the most part in Ginebra's 108-97 win over Alaska at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday night.
Although the decided underdog, Ferrer came prepared for 'The Beast.'
The Barangay Ginebra rookie admitted he did his homework before the knockout match in the PBA Philippine Cup by watching videos of their previous encounters against Abueva and the Aces on YouTube.
"Pinagaralan ko talaga 'yung game ni Calvin. Gabi pa lang after ng game, inabangan ko na yung game namin sa YouTube at nakita ko yung magandang ginawa ko," said Ferrer.
As usual, 'The Beast' proved hard to tame as he put together a fine all-around outing of 29 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
But Ferrer held his own with 15 points and had the last laugh as the Gin Kings booked a trip to the semifinals of the season-opening conference against longtime rival Star Hotshots.
"In-enjoy ko lang yung ginagawa ko. Nakaka-stop naman eh. Nung huli, ganito din ang nilalaro ko sa UAAP, so focus lang talaga. Ang unang mapikon, talo," he added.
The former University of Santo Tomas star was quick to put the series behind him, immediate shifting his focus to the semiifinal playoff against Star which begins on Thursday.
"Hintayin ko na lang yung game plan namin. Di ko matingnan kung sino ang matchup ko dun. Di ko rin alam yung role na ibibigay sa akin ni coach Tim Cone. Magaaral kami sa games ng Star," he said.
