ANTIPOLO – It’s been a while since Kevin Ferrer played in the PBA finals. Now that he’s back at it, the veteran forward is making sure he makes the most out of his return stint.
He exactly did that in Game 2 of the TNT-San Miguel Philippine Cup title series by leading the Tropang 5Gs bench mobbed that tried but fell short to rally back the team in a 111-92 loss Friday night in Game 2 at the Ynares Center.

Ferrer had all of his 11 points scored in the final quarter when he, along with Jio Jalalon, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Henry Galinato, and Kelly Williams, made a last ditch effort to put the Tropang 5G back to the game.
The former University of Santo Tomas stalwart hit back-to-back shots from the four-point line during one stretch of the rally, but San Miguel was just too good and too poised to crack down under pressure.
“Naunahan kami sa first quarter pa lang. Nung third quarter nag-try kaming humabol, pero alam ninyo naman ang SMB, hindi ka naman basta-basta makakahabol dun,” he said.
“Gusto naman naming manalo, pero kinapos nga.”
The best-of-seven series is Ferrer’s first finals campaign since the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup when he became part of Barangay Ginebra’s championship unit that beat San Miguel in six games.
“Sobrang sarap ng pakiramdam kasi nakaka-miss itong stage na ito,” admitted the 32-year-old cager. “Minsanan na nga lang ito. So lubusin na natin. I’m just excited and happy.”
With the series tied at 1-1, the finals is now a best-of-five duel, and Ferrer said the remaining minutes of Game 2 when the Tropang 5G were making a run is part of their preparation for Sunday’s next game.
“Next-game mentality na kami,” he said. “Kumuha lang kami ng lessons in this game."
“So sabi nga ni coach (Chot Reyes) back to square one kami. Move on na kami sa game na ito.”
