KEVIN Ferrer is eager to learn and improve under coach Tim Cone as he hopes to be able to contribute as Ginebra goes for back-to-back titles.
The heartbreak kid who lost in finals thrice in college and once in the developmental league, could not help but speak about winning championships after being taken by the Kings in the special draft for Gilas Pilipinas members on Sunday.
"May heart of champion na sila. So ako gusto ko matulungan sila mag back-to-back champion. Or di lang back-to-back. Ibibigay ko committment ko sa team … masaya ako na ito na bagong tahanan ko," said Ferrer.
A member of the UST Tigers squad that wound up bridesmaids in the UAAP three times, and part of the Tanduay squad that wound up second in the PBA D-League, Ferrer vows to work hard to be able to fit into Cone’s system.
"Tingin ko si coach babaguhin nya mga mali ko, at yung maturity ko iimprove nya," said Ferrer,
"Basta kung ano lang bigay ni coach na role gagawin ko talaga yun. Ayun lang naman kailangan ng team," he said.
Ferrer is also happy to be reunited with UST teammate Aljon Mariano, noting that having played under former Ginebra player Pido Jarencio is a big plus.
"Sobrang excited lang talga, sobrang saya. Barangay Ginebra is Barangay Ginebra, may attitude din na "never say die" like yung itinuro samin ni coach Pido (Jarencio)," he said.
