RAIN or Shine draftee Kevin Alas said he’s ready for the physical plays in the PBA - and bracing to get an earful from temperamental coach Yeng Guiao.
The 6-foot-1 guard selected No. 2 overall by the Elasto Painters in Sunday’s draft admitted he’s used to being shouted at by his father Louie Alas back when he was still playing under him with Letran in college.
“Tatay ko grabe kung sigawan ako, so pagdating kay coach Yeng, sanay na naman ako,” said the 22-year-old Alas.
Alas is considered as an “insurance” draft pick by Guiao in the wake of the trade saga involving combo guard Paul Lee, who has sought a trade at the end of his contract with Rain or Shine.
Nonetheless, the former Gilas cadet guard admits there’s no pressure on him if ever Lee, the former Rookie of the Year, makes good on his decision to leave the team.
However, he’ll try to take the challenge head on, knowing he’s got other veteran guards in the team who will be ready to help him.
“Added pressure yun, kasi iba si Paul Lee,” he said. “Pero iniisip ko nga din, na di lang ako ang guard dun. Madaming guards dun sa Rain or Shine so ang daming puwede tumulong sa akin gawin `yung role ko.”
Like Lee, the 22-year-old Alas can play both the point and the two spots, positions he was comfortable with playing during his college days with Letran.
