AFTER a string of losses to his son in the past, Louie Alas finally got one over Kevin when Phoenix came away with a 102-95 win over NLEX on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Alas won his second straight game as Phoenix head coach and, more importantly, won a game against Kevin after a string of losses to the latter back when he was still an assistant at Alaska.

Now it's dad who's holding the bragging rights during family dinners.

"Hindi ako nanalo (while in Alaska). Good thing, good thing... first time akong nanalo sa kanya, at least makakabawi naman ako ngayon," Alas said chuckling.

The younger Alas shared that he's ready to hear it from dad.

"Malungkot ako ngayon pero pag kinantyawan ako nun mamaya, wala akong magagawa. Hindi ako pwede mapikon," said the younger Alas, who played for his father at Letran.

"I'm really happy for him cause he's really successful in Phoenix pero at the same time sad cause natalo kami and hindi pa maganda nilaro ko."

Kevin Alas struggled heavily in the face of the rugged Fuel Masters defense, finishing with just six points on 2-7 shooting.

There where times where Kevin ended up on the floor due to the physical nature of Phoenix's defense, but his dad insisted there was no instruction to rough up his son.

"Actually talagang general ang instruction ko sa perimeter guys ko na as much as possible, force them (NLEX shooters) to pass the basketball," said Louie Alas.

"Instead of pipilitin niyong maka-atake, ang exact ano nga diyan, do not allow them to go to the paint. Kasi kapag nakapunta sila sa paint, makaka-create na sila," he added.

      Kevin totally understood.

"It's part of the game, yung physicality, we're expecting naman Phoenix kasi full-court pressure. Kami rin naman eh. Puro ratratan yung laro kanina," he said.

But father and son said they were putting the game behind them when they sit down for dinner after the game.

"Andito siya sa Pasig nakatira kasi. After the game, umuuwi 'yun. Ngayon hindi muna siya umuwi, sabi niya concentrate muna sila. Sabi ko pagkatapos na lang ng game, let's have dinner."
