KEVIN Alas made it a point to deliver on the defensive end after committing a miscue on the offensive end late in NLEX's 82-81 win over Mahindra in the PBA Governors' Cup on Wednesday.
The sophomore playmer left the door open for Mahindra after committing an error when he couldn't keep possession of the leather and turned the ball out of bounds after John Pinto went for a steal with the Road Warriors up by just one.
But Alas made up for it by picking the pocket of import James White on the other end to preserve the win.
"Actually, mindset ko nung nag-turnover ako, I have to get this stop para ma-cover up yung turnover ko," Alas admitted. "Masaya ako na nakabawi ako sa defense."
Alas knew the right side was White’s strong side as he had had a weaker left hand.
"I just played to his tendencies, Alas explained. "We're sending him left so alam ko na pagnag-drive siya sa kaliwa alam ko na susundot na ako, alam ko yun lang yung gagawin niya. Pinagaralan ko na yung tendencies niya so buong game naman yun din ginagawa niya."
Alas also shone on offense as he emerged the top-scoring local with 13 markers to help his team win two straight games after losing three straight to improve to improve to 3-3.
"Ako personally, pinipilit ko yung sarili ko na maging positive sa practice, and encourage some of my teammates kasi may mga doubts na nga tapos makisali pa ako, baka mag-rub off sa lahat.”
