NOT even an impressive individual performance from Kevin Alas could stop NLEX's skid as the Road Warriors lost to Rain or Shine, 107-97, in their PBA Philippine Cup match on Friday night.
With the entire Alas brood watching from the patron area, Kevin knocked down four triples in the third quarter where he scored all but two of his 17 points as the Road Warriors kept the Elasto Painters at bay.
But Alas feels they hardly played as a unit overall as RoS turned the game around in the fourth.
"I guess we're just playing selfish basketball," Alas said. "We weren't playing smart basketball."
As a result, the Road Warriors reeled to their fifth straight loss after starting the season - their first under veteran coach Yeng Guiao - with a win.
"Nakaka-frustrate kasi hindi ko na alam kailan ako natalo ng limang sunod," Alas said. "Sa isang series, matatalo ka ng four straight lang naman eh."
"I hope yung Christmas break makatulong sa amin makapag-isip-isip, kasi alam naman namin na sarili namin yung problema namin eh," he added.
Despite his disappointment over the team's showing, Guiao recognized the individual efforts of Alas, who also contributed four boards, two assists, and one block, against a single turnover in 24 minutes off t he bench.
“We’re really preparing him to have a big role in this team, Guiao said. "He’s a potential leader on and off the court."
"I know he can slash, but he needs to get his confidence with his outside shooting to balance off yung inside-outside game niya and lumabas kanina yung shooting niya," he added.
"That should just motivate him to keep working on his outside shot."
