PLAYERS involved in the scuffle that marred the PBA Commissioner’s Cup game between Rain or Shine and Globalport were spared of suspension but were heavily fined by the league on Thursday.
The Globalport pair of Kelly Nabong and import Malcolm White received the biggest amount of penalty meted out by Commissioner Willie Marcial as the two were fined a total of P50,000.
In all, a total of P93,000 were meted on all players involved in the fight-marred game.
Nabong’s penalty amounted to P30,000 broke down as follows – P20,000 for flagrant foul penalty 2 after pushing Rain or Shine guard Maverick Ahanmisi from behind and P10,000 for using a dirty finger.
White, meanwhile, was penalized P20,000 for hitting ROS guard Chris Tiu with a hard elbow that resulted in a busted lip that needed a few stitches to close.
Meanwhile, Ahanmisi was fined P15,000 for shoving a fallen Sean Anthony as he wrestled for the loose ball against Beau Belga. The push actually sparked the incident at the final four-minute mark of the highly-intense game which the Elasto Painters won, 96-90, just before the All-Star break.
Each handed P10,000 fines were Moala Tautuaa for shoving the ball to Ahanmisi at the height of the fracas, and Raymund Almazan for hitting White late in the game, an episode which spilled over at the hallway leading to the parking lot of the Smart Araneta Coliseum shortly after the match.
Jay Washington, Ryan Arana, White, and Bradwyn Guinto on the other hand, were hit with a P2,000 fine each after the four rushed to the scene of the fight.
Additionally, the four referees who worked the game were all suspended.
Rommel Gruta, Nol Quilinguen, and Janine Nicandro will not be working a game for one rotation, while Mike Flordeliza was banned for two rotations.
