JVEE Casio rued his missed desperation three-pointer that could’ve completed Alaska’s comeback from a 23-point hole against San Miguel Beer in Game Seven of the PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Wednesday.
The Aces trailed 78-80 with two seconds left when Casio got a shot at a game-winner, but his catch-and-shoot attempt from the left wing with one second left wound up wide right.
The Aces’ starting point guard admitted the leather slipped from his hands after he caught the pass from teammate Sonny Thoss as the final two seconds of the thrilling match ticked away.
“We had the opportunity,” Casio said. “Nadulas lang yung bola nung pagkatanggap ko, pero congratulations sa San Miguel. They played well.”
The four-year league veteran scored seven points in the first half but went scoreless the rest of the way, although he did have four rebounds in 36 minutes.
Still, the former De La Salle star likes what the future holds for Alaska under the rejigged system put up by coach Alex Compton.
“Alam naman namin kung ano capabilities namin from the start, kung ano yung tinrain namin, kaya siguro nandito kami,” he said. “Madami pa (na chance), so abangan niyo na lang.”
