JVee Casio insists he has always been aggressive for Alaska and not just against Star

JVEE Casio insists he has always been aggressive on offense for Alaska in the Smart Bro-PBA Philippine Cup after putting up a rare terrific offensive display in the Aces’ 107-102 win against Star on Tuesday night.

Coming in averaging just 10.4 points in his first five games, the veteran playmaker turned it up a notch against the Hotshots when he registered 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a perfect 4-of-4 clip from beyond the arc on top of four assists, and three boards in 32 minutes of play.

Casio said there has always been a conscious effort to deliver on offense.

“Always. Kailangan naman maging threat,” the former La Salle star said. “We have very good guards here who all have to be threats. You have to be aggressive.”

But Casio was quick to add that he didn’t force any shot, particularly against the Hotshots, saying he has just been going with the flow of coach Alex Compton’s offense.

“Yung system lang talaga ni coach yun,” Casio said. “May mga magandang game ako, pero more importantly, Alaska scores (as a team).”

His offensive showing shadowed a crucial late turnover that gave the Aces a scare.

But Aces coach Alex Compton took the blame, saying he could’ve called a better play or called a timeout when Casio committed a traveling violation with 30 seconds left and the Aces protecting a 103-100 lead.

“I should have set him up in a position not to travel,” the American mentor said. “But I like to challenge my guys to make decisions on their own.”
