PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan - Alaska guard JV Casio underwent surgery on his nose which he fractured during the team’s 103-89 upset to KIA Motors in Tuesday PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 5-foot-10 Casio was accidentally hit by KIA playmaker LA Revilla’s wayward elbow during the first quarter. He was immediately taken out of the game and never came back.
“JV checked in at the hospital (Friday) and had surgery on Saturday,” Alaska team manager Dickie Bachman told Spin.ph.
The sweet-shooting guard, who has struggled with injuries this season, will be out next Tuesday when Alaska plays Blackwater in a battle between two teams fighting for playoff survival.
The Aces have gone 0-3 since tapping import Damion James for DJ Covington.
Bachman said the team is hopeful Casio will be ready when the Aces collide with the Meralco Bolts on March 17, most likely with a protective mask to cover his injured nose.
The former La Salle gunner has only played three games since opening the conference with an injured wrist.
Alaska, runner-up to San Miguel in the recent Philippine Cup, occupies the 10th spot at the moment with a 2-5 win-loss record.
